Afla-Guard GR is a biological control agent used in agriculture to displace aflatoxin-producing fungi. The active ingredient is Aspergillus flavus (NRRL 21882) at a concentration of 0.0094%. It is specifically designed for use on almonds, peanuts, pistachios, and corn. The product works by actively displacing the strains of A. flavus that produce aflatoxin on the crops. Application methods vary by crop: for peanuts, it is applied via ground application at 20 lb/Acre; for corn, it is applied at 10 lb/Acre; and for almonds and pistachios, it is applied to the tree canopy with a granular applicator. Users should note that for peanuts, application should occur during the full canopy stage (40-80 days after planting). For corn, application should occur during the V7 to R1 growth stage. For almonds and pistachios, application is most effective from late May through early July. Handling requires specific Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including coveralls, waterproof gloves, shoe plus socks, goggles, and a NIOSH-approved particulate respirator if required by the Worker Protection Standard. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, or clothing. Do not apply directly to water or areas where surface water is present. This product is OMRI listed for organic use.
